RPS Group has an exciting full-time, permanent opportunity for a talented LC MS Analyst to join our cutting-edge laboratory team in Bedford. Indeed, you’ll play a vital role in tackling complex analytical challenges that help shape safer, cleaner environments for everyone.

About the Role

As an experienced LC MS Analyst, you’ll manage the full analytical process. This includes everything from sample extraction and preparation to advanced data analysis and reporting. You’ll run a variety of methods for identifying and quantifying pesticides, pollutants, and emerging contaminants, primarily using LC-MS/MS technology.

What You’ll Be Doing

Your key responsibilities will involve:

  • Performing trace organic analysis across diverse samples and matrices.
  • Operating triple and single quadrupole LC-MS instruments, as well as related lab equipment.
  • Preparing samples, solutions, and reagents while strictly following precise lab procedures.
  • Collaborating with extraction teams to ensure accurate sample readiness.
  • Conducting maintenance and troubleshooting LC-MS systems to ensure optimal performance.
  • Supporting method development for new and emerging contaminants.
  • Ensuring all results are processed, interpreted, and reported accurately.
  • Maintaining high standards for quality control and leading investigations into non-conforming work.

What We’re Looking For

We are seeking a professional who brings:

  • Relevant experience in an accredited analytical testing lab, ideally in environmental analysis.
  • Hands-on expertise with LC-MS/MS systems, specifically single and triple quadrupole instruments.
  • Familiarity with ionization techniques such as ESI and APCI.
  • Experience with Agilent Chemstation and Masshunter software is desirable, though not essential.
  • Solid skills in various extraction methods, including liquid-liquid, solid phase, and QuEChERS.
  • A 2:1 BSc in Chemistry or a related field, or equivalent industrial experience.
  • Strong time management, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to thrive effectively under pressure.
