Are you a passionate marketing professional who excels at crafting unforgettable events? We are excited to offer a Marketing & Events Manager Job Opportunity in the United Kingdom to join Chartwells. Importantly, this role, part of the wider Compass Group family, is based at Northumbria University in Newcastle upon Tyne (NE1 8SB). Specifically, this pivotal, hybrid role pays £31,300 a year. You will use your expertise to enhance the entire university experience for students and faculty through exceptional hospitality and event catering.
About Chartwells & The Role
Chartwells works directly on-site at Northumbria University. We partner with our clients to deliver the best university experience through innovative food, great events, and passionate service. Therefore, we need a dynamic manager to own the mission of building our catering brand on campus.
Overall purpose of the role:
- Own our brand onsite.
- Consequently, enhance the university experience for staff and students through our offers and special events calendar.
- Drive sales with a strategic approach to customer profiling, targeted communication plans, and an engaging events calendar.
- Finally, build excellent relationships with our clients, customers, suppliers, and partners.
Key Responsibilities
As the Marketing & Events Manager, you will:
- Brand Ownership: Own our onsite brand. You will ensure adherence to central team guidelines. Crucially, maintain the unique, proud identity relevant to Northumbria University’s students (“bait and banter, we’re Northern and proud”).
- Content Consistency: Use our brand’s specific tone of voice across all communications. This includes menus and temporary signage to ensure a consistent and authentic identity.
- Creative Assets: Work within and own our Canva account. You will use it for campaign resources, visual assets, and operational materials like menus.
- Brand Support: Work with our existing partner brands and franchises. You will support operational teams with installs and delivery. This ensures all outlets look their best and remain compliant for brand audits.
- Promotional Display: Ensure that our brands, campaigns, and promotions display accurately and consistently across all outlets. Also, ensure operational teams have all necessary materials.
- Inclusivity: Work within Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) guidelines. We aim for best practice in inclusivity and accessibility. Consequently, we provide a great experience for everyone.
Candidate Specification
We seek a highly capable and motivated individual. They must demonstrate:
- People Skills: You must be a people-person. Therefore, you should feel comfortable speaking with a new student or a senior stakeholder.

- Experience & Skills: Relevant marketing experience is essential. This includes a creative approach and the ability to produce and interpret campaign data and performance reports. You must also show demonstrable experience working towards targets.
- Technical Tools: You must have experience in Canva or an equivalent design tool.
- Organisational Skills: A highly organized approach to work and scheduling is required. Likewise, you must be pragmatic when needed.
- Channel Knowledge: You should understand different marketing channels. You must know how to use them to their full advantage.
- Industry Interest: A strong interest in Food & Beverage (F&B), retail, and events is highly valued.
- Resilience: You must work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment. Crucially, you must maintain a positive attitude and strong attention to detail.
