Join Team Hamble: Teacher of Food Technology Job Opportunity!

Are you an ambitious and enthusiastic Teacher of Food Technology looking for your next challenge? Indeed, The Hamble School is seeking a talented professional to join our dedicated Technology Department in Southampton (SO31 4NE). Specifically, our vision—‘We Care, We Aim High, We Learn and Achieve Together’—guides everything we do for our 1,140 students. Furthermore, since Ofsted recently graded us as ‘Good’ in all areas, we continue to strive for the very best educational outcomes.

The Role and Department

Specifically, we want to appoint a talented individual to teach Food Preparation & Nutrition, with the additional ability to teach Design Technology at Key Stage 3. Additionally, you will join a Technology Department that consists of a dedicated team of experienced staff and specialist workshops. Consequently, our aim is to deliver a challenging curriculum that balances practical skills with theoretical knowledge.

Moreover, student numbers for GCSE options remain high. Currently, our students follow the Eduqas specification for Food Preparation and Nutrition, alongside AQA for Design Technology and Engineering. Therefore, this role would suit both experienced practitioners and Early Career Teachers (ECTs) who are motivated to innovate.

Why Choose The Hamble School?

Furthermore, we take pride in offering a positive and optimistic working environment. In return for your hard work, we provide a comprehensive benefits package:

  • Well-being Focus: We prioritize staff well-being and maintain high standards of student behavior.

  • Professional Growth: You will access strong internal and external training via PiXL and local consortia. Additionally, we support staff in completing NPQs.

  • Health Benefits: Staff enjoy free access to excellent gym and swimming facilities run by Everyone Active.

  • Family Support: You may apply for discounted childcare at the Hamble Early Years Centre, located directly next to the school.

  • Convenience: We provide free on-site parking and enjoy excellent local public transport links via bus and rail.

Candidate Profile

Ideally, the successful Teacher of Food Technology will demonstrate:

  • High expectations for student achievement and progress.

  • The ability to work collaboratively within the Design Technology Team.

  • A commitment to sharing best practices to improve student outcomes.

  • Importantly, a valid teaching qualification and a passion for culinary education.

Key Information and Safer Recruitment

Please note that interviews will take place on Friday 27 February 2026. Therefore, we encourage you to submit your application as early as possible, as we reserve the right to close the vacancy early.

Finally, The Hamble School and Hampshire County Council are committed to safeguarding children. Consequently, all successful candidates must complete an enhanced DBS certificate and a children’s barred list check. Additionally, we will perform online searches and request references—including one from your current Headteacher—prior to the interview stage.

How to Apply

To begin, please visit the school website and navigate to the ‘Vacancies’ section under ‘Our School’. Furthermore, new users of Education Jobs South must register an account to complete the process.
