About the Database Administrator Role:

As a Database Administrator, you will play a key role in ensuring the reliability, performance, and security of AJ Bell’s database environments. You will work across multiple systems, support business-critical applications, and contribute to long-term database architecture and capacity planning.

This role is ideal for professionals with strong SQL Server expertise who enjoy problem-solving in a fast-paced, regulated environment.

Key Responsibilities – Database Administrator:

In this Database Administrator job in Manchester, your responsibilities will include:

• Ensuring seamless database operations across multiple environments

• Conducting performance testing and approving SQL scripts

• Maintaining database availability and performance within agreed SLAs

• Proactively monitoring and optimising server and database performance

• Troubleshooting complex database issues independently

• Managing database upgrades and legacy system migrations

• Maintaining secure access controls and robust backup processes

• Supporting capacity planning and database architecture decisions

• Resolving Service Desk incidents with effective data solutions

• Advising on database technologies for future projects

• Conducting disaster recovery testing

• Participating in an out-of-hours DBA support rota

Skills, Knowledge & Experience Required:

To succeed in this Database Administrator job in the UK, you should have:

Essential Skills

• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

• Experience working with relational and non-relational databases

• Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively

• Ability to prioritise tasks in a fast-paced environment

• High attention to detail and self-motivation

Technical Experience

• 3–5 years’ experience in database administration

• Strong expertise in SQL Server, including:

  • Clustering

  • Replication

  • High Availability solutions

• Proven experience in SQL Server performance tuning

• Experience upgrading and migrating legacy database systems

• Familiarity with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB
