Cyber Smart: Strengthening SME Defences Through Awareness and Action

Stevenage Borough Council and Wenta in partnership with the Serious Fraud and Cyber Unit at Herts Constabulary and GCIS (UK) Ltd are delighted to host Cyber Smart: Strengthening SME Defences Through Awareness and Action on Friday 7 November at the btc Stevenage.

Cyber Smart: Strengthening SME Defences Through Awareness and Action aims to raise cybersecurity awareness among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), highlight common cyber threats, and promote practical steps for mitigation. Through interactive learning including “a Cyber Escape Room” participants will gain insights into cyber risks and how to improve their organisation’s security posture.

  • SME Owners and Executives
  • IT Managers and Admins
  • Operations and Risk Management Staff
  • General Employees non-technical roles also welcome

Biographies

Chen Tsiu and Alan Mordey -Cyber Protect & Prevent Officer Serious Fraud & Cyber Unit -Herts Constabulary

Chen and Alan are Cyber Protect and Prevent Officers and work for the Serous Fraud and Cyber Unit in Hertfordshire Constabulary. As part of Team Cyber UK network, Chen is responsible for delivering the ‘Protect’ and ‘Prevent’ strands of the Constabulary’s Cybercrime strategy and more generally the National Cyber Strategy, collaborating with partners in both the private and public sector, including peers at a regional and national level.​

From a ‘Protect’ perspective, Chen and Alan deliver awareness, education and prevention advice to businesses, charities, and local communities to help reduce the impact of cybercrime against both the public and businesses.​

They also work closely with partners and the education sector to identify and divert young individuals who commit cybercrime offences and offer them alternative paths within the commercial world to steer them away from hacking and committing cybercrime.

Amy Beere, Service Delivery Manager – GCIS (UK) Ltd

GCIS are a leading IT support organisation, providing businesses with a comprehensive range of technology solutions, including fully managed IT services, network design and installation, and IT consultancy.

Amy Beere is the Service Delivery Manager at GCIS, using her experience in the industry to assist organisations in delivering their strategic IT goals and technical transformation projects. With over 15 years’ experience, she has worked with schools, local and national businesses across a variety of roles, providing her with a deep understanding of the technical landscape from end-user computing to networking and infrastructure.

Michael Martin, Head of Net Zero & Business Advice Team, Wenta

Michael leads six advisory colleagues and, with the Head of Business Advice & Support, oversees Wenta’s Programmes Delivery and sustainability support for clients, liaising with partner organisations.

During the last thirty years, Michael founded five ventures, including three as employer, two sold as going concerns and as unsalaried founder of a registered mental health charity.
