Role Overview

As our new Food Technologist, you will take responsibility for ensuring all products remain safe, legal, and of high quality. Specifically, you will work in accordance with the Quality Management System (QMS) to ensure both established and new products meet defined specifications. Furthermore, you will join a dynamic team that values continuous improvement. Ultimately, we seek an enthusiastic individual who will contribute to our ongoing success story.

• Salary: £30,000 – £32,000 per annum

• Hours: Full-time (40 hours per week)

• Schedule: Monday to Friday, Day Shift (Flexibility required for key projects)

• Location: Lanark

Your Key Responsibilities

Your daily work will involve a variety of technical and quality-focused tasks. For instance, you will:

• Food Safety & HACCP: Act as a key member of the site’s HACCP team. You will hold joint responsibility for maintaining and advancing food safety systems.

• Quality Culture: Support site-wide food safety and quality culture objectives while collaborating with the Operations Management Team.

• Performance Monitoring: Collate, analyze, and trend departmental performance data (KPIs/PIs). In addition, you will lead root cause investigations for any out-of-specification results.

• QMS Execution: Manage supplier and specification approvals, product labeling, traceability, and internal audits.

• Technical Services: Oversee third-party audits, pest control management, external laboratory testing, and equipment calibration.

• Quality Standards: Define and enhance factory specifications to ensure they align with customer expectations and regulations.

• Trial Management: Manage production trials by ensuring all activities are safe, documented, and actioned appropriately.

• Advocacy: Act as a champion for food safety best practices across internal communication channels.

Knowledge & Experience

We are looking for a candidate with the following qualifications:

Required:

• Proven experience in a similar role with a manufacturer of baked goods (ideally biscuits).

• Education to a minimum of HNC/HND level, preferably in Food Technology.

• Intermediate Food Hygiene and HACCP Level 2 certifications.

• Internal Auditor training.

• A firm understanding of food safety and quality management systems.

• Expert IT skills, particularly in Microsoft Excel and Outlook.

Desirable:

• An understanding of the secondary processing of chocolate.

• Awareness of relevant UK legislation and technical codes of practice.

• Methodical thinking and strong attention to detail.
