The University of Southampton is actively seeking a professional to join the growing AXIS (Access eXtract and Integrate Safe Data) team within the Clinical Informatics Research Unit (CIRU). In this pivotal role, you will help develop The Pre-hospital Research and Audit Network (PRANA), a groundbreaking project designed to build a complete, research-ready database. Ultimately, your work could shape life-saving medical treatments and influence governmental policy on emergency medicine and road usage.
About the Role:
As a Post Graduate Data Scientist, you will play a key part in a transformational healthcare project. You’ll contribute to an innovative team in a supportive and inclusive environment that values diversity, respect, and collaboration.
Key Responsibilities:
Your core responsibilities will include:
- Developing pipelines: You will develop automated data pipelines using Python and SQL to streamline data integration processes.
- Transforming data: You’ll format, transform, and consolidate datasets from multiple sources into the PRANA database.
- Ensuring compliance: You’ll be responsible for curating large-scale clinical datasets while ensuring strict compliance and data security.
- Collaborating: You will work closely with clinicians, statisticians, and engineers to design and improve the PRANA database.
- Creating insights: You’ll create insightful reports and visualization tools to support critical research initiatives.
- Analyzing data (optional): You can apply statistical analysis techniques to explore complex datasets.
- Using version control: You will use GIT and version control to collaborate effectively across projects.
- Improving processes: You’ll also contribute to ongoing improvements in processes, tools, and systems.
What We’re Looking For:
We are seeking a candidate who brings:
- A strong background in data science, with hands-on experience in pipeline development.
- Proficiency in Python, SQL, and other related languages.
- Experience with healthcare data and secure data environments is a plus.

Perks & Details:
- Salary: £36,636 – £44,746 per annum
- Contract: This is a full-time, fixed-term position until April 30, 2027.
