About the Role
As a Data Network Engineer, you’ll oversee the full lifecycle of our network systems—from initial concept and design through to implementation, support, and continuous improvement. You’ll work with cutting-edge technologies that power SSE’s expanding energy network, helping connect remote sites, substations, and control systems across Scotland. This role is more than just maintaining uptime. It’s about building the robust, secure networks of tomorrow to ensure long-term performance in a net-zero world.
Key Responsibilities
Your core responsibilities will include:
- Contributing to the design and delivery of network solutions within our Cyber Resilience for Operational Technology (CROT) Programme.
- Providing specialist support on the Operational Technology (OT) network while driving improvements and long-term development.
- Building and maintaining a detailed knowledge of network topology (LAN/WAN), including hands-on discovery.
- Shaping network strategies in collaboration with our suppliers and internal stakeholders.
- Assessing risks and implementing practical security measures to strengthen both performance and resilience.
What You’ll Bring
We are looking for a professional who possesses:
- Solid experience in LAN, WAN, QoS, and firewall technologies.
- Strong knowledge of network security principles and their practical application.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex concepts.
- A structured problem-solving approach to transform requirements into tangible solutions.
- Hands-on expertise with Cisco networking and Palo Alto firewalls, including both design and operational experience.
