The Role

As a Library Assistant, you will be the first point of contact for our students and staff, delivering exceptional customer service both in-person and online. This position is vital for ensuring the smooth operation of our library services and maintaining a supportive atmosphere for our community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Service Desk Operations: Staffing library service points on a rota basis to ensure efficient and friendly service.
  • Circulation & Collections: Supporting all aspects of circulation, stock and collection management, and space management.
  • Administrative Support: Assisting with inter-lending, membership, data entry, and various other administrative tasks.
  • Team Collaboration: Working closely with Library Supervisors, Senior Assistants, and specialist staff to enhance overall library services.

What We’re Looking For

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented individual with a strong commitment to service. The ideal candidate will have:

  • Relevant Experience: Prior experience in libraries, information services, or a customer service-focused role.
  • Strong Communication: The ability to communicate clearly and effectively with a diverse range of colleagues and students.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: The capacity to resolve enquiries efficiently while maintaining high service standards.
  • Organizational Skills: A detail-oriented approach to tasks and confidence in handling administration and data.
  • Team-Oriented Mindset: A collaborative spirit and enjoyment for working as part of a close-knit team.

Salary & Hours

  • Salary: £31,720 – £34,925 per year (pro-rata)
  • Hours: 26 hours per week, with a schedule of Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday all-day shifts, plus an additional 5 hours on either Monday or Thursday.
