About the Role
As a Data Scientist on our Online Team, you’ll collaborate with other brilliant Data Scientists, Machine Learning Engineers, and Software Engineers to enhance Tesco’s digital customer journey. Your work will directly influence how customers search and interact with the Tesco website, helping to shape the future of online retail.
What You’ll Be Doing
In this role, you will:
- Apply and modify advanced models for information retrieval and re-ranking.
- Advise on Machine Learning system architecture and associated technologies.
- Train and fine-tune machine learning models using real-world data.
- Write clean, efficient, and high-quality code (primarily in Python).
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to drive innovation.
- Communicate complex solutions to non-technical stakeholders clearly and effectively.
What You’ll Need to Succeed
To be successful in this role, you should have:
- Commercial experience as a Data Scientist or a PhD in a relevant field (e.g., Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering).
- Hands-on knowledge in Semantic Search, Recommender Systems, Large Language Models (LLMs), Deep Learning, or Information Retrieval.
- Proficiency in Python and a solid understanding of best practices in Software Engineering (version control, testing, Continuous Integration).
- Experience with Hybrid Search, Vector Databases, or Elasticsearch is a bonus.
