We are currently seeking a dedicated Project Development Phase Officer to join our team on a part-time, fixed-term contract extending until June 18, 2026. This exciting opportunity is based at City Hall in Leicester.
About the Role:
Join our dynamic conservation team within the Planning Service to play a crucial role in supporting the development of a significant National Lottery Heritage Fund project: Restoring the Soar. In this role, you will collaborate closely with the Project Manager, the Leicestershire & Rutland Wildlife Trust, and the Canal & River Trust. Together, you will work towards the restoration of historic environments, the enhancement of vital wildlife habitats, and the overall improvement of Leicester’s river corridor for the benefit of walking, cycling, and boating enthusiasts.
Job Title: Project Development Phase Officer Salary: £27,903 – £30,028 per year Working Hours: 30 hours/week, Monday to Friday Contract: Fixed term until 18 June 2026 Location: 115 Charles Street, City Hall, Leicester

What You’ll Be Doing:
Your key responsibilities will include providing crucial assistance in the preparation of the delivery bid for the Heritage Fund. You will also coordinate various development-phase activities, working closely with our valued partners and stakeholders. Representing and advocating for Leicester’s important natural and historic assets will be a significant part of your role. Furthermore, you will engage with local communities to actively encourage access and inclusion in environmental and heritage initiatives. Preparing comprehensive reports, managing data effectively, and creating engaging presentations for senior management and public meetings will also be essential tasks.
What You’ll Need:
To excel in this role, you will need proven experience in either managing or providing support for multi-partner heritage or environmental projects. A strong understanding of biodiversity, conservation principles, and the challenges facing our heritage is crucial. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and stakeholder management skills are also essential. Experience in community engagement, with a specific focus on promoting inclusion and accessibility, is highly desirable. The ability to create well-structured and funder-ready documentation and reports is also necessary, along with solid IT and data management skills.
