Senior Firmware Engineer:

Role Overview:

As a Senior Firmware Engineer, you will design and develop FPGA solutions using VHDL, verify designs using VHDL or System Verilog, and collaborate closely with Systems, Hardware, and Software teams to integrate and solve complex system challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

• Create robust and innovative VHDL-based FPGA designs.
• Document and record project deliverables.
• Verify FPGA designs and ensure configuration management under revision control.
• Provide regular progress reports and technical updates.
• Debug FPGA designs and support hardware and system-level integration and verification.

Required Skills, Qualifications, and Experience:

Mandatory:

• Minimum 5 years of experience in FPGA development using VHDL or Verilog.
• Proficient with Mentor Graphics tools, including HDL Designer, ModelSim/Questa, and Precision.
• Expertise with Xilinx, Intel (Altera), or Microsemi (Actel) design flows and third-party synthesis tools.
• Skilled in specifying timing and area constraints for efficient FPGA Place and Route.
• Ability to analyse system and hardware-level requirements to derive detailed FPGA specifications.
• Familiarity with version control and revision control software for FPGA designs.
• Experience with high-speed serial protocols and implementations.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with proficiency in Linux and scripting.
• Technical decision-making experience to mitigate design risks.

Desirable:

• Experience with real-time, embedded, safety-critical FPGA in compliance with RTCA/DO-254 DAL A or B standards.
• Proficiency in SystemVerilog/UVM for independent verification.
• Background in Aerospace or Defence industries.
• Familiarity with embedded processor cores (e.g., ARM) and the latest FPGA device families.
• Practical knowledge of agile methodologies.

Qualifications:

• Honours degree or equivalent in Electronics Engineering or a related STEM field.
• UK citizenship (mandatory) to clear background checks and obtain SC clearance.
• Current valid SC clearance is advantageous.
